Ruaha National Park

Whether rainy or dry season: pure fascination!

Ruaha National Park is synonymous with tranquillity, seclusion and unsurpassed, lush vegetation. With a bit of luck, you might even spot an African wild dog.

Ruaha National Park is located in the south-central part of the country and is considered an untouched and pristine ecosystem. There is no “best time to visit” here. Whether you visit during the rainy or dry season: The park impresses all year round, either with fascinating animal spectacles or with extremely lush vegetation.

You can spot wild animals, especially during the dry season between July and December. During this time, the elephants are drawn to the Great Ruaha River, the lifeline of the area, and to other water sources. The sand rivers (Mwagusi, Mdonya and others) are now dry, but have underground water reserves: the scenes of the elephants digging holes to reach the longed-for refreshment – and how other animals benefit from this – are unique. Ruaha National Park is also known for its lion population and variety of antelopes.

No less fascinating, however, is the picture that emerges during the rainy season: Now the area is lush and green, with rivers full of water. Especially at the end of the rainy season, a magnificent landscape full of grass and leaves stretches out, with amazing flowers of all kinds – from bright showy bindweed to hibiscus in the most vibrant colors. Incidentally, around 1400 plant species grow in Ruaha National Park. That is significantly more than in some other parks.

Dry or rainy season? We will help you decide.

With a bit of luck, the rare and shy African wild dogs can also be observed in Ruaha National Park. They are equally admired for their social behavior, their hunting style and their beautiful fur. Ruaha National Park is also an unparalleled bird paradise and a habitat for the so-called Beat Eared Fox.
When do you visit the park? You are spoiled for choice. It’s best to visit several times!
