Ndutu Safari Lodge is located in the south of the Serengeti, on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Nestled in the untouched landscape of the Ndutu region, it is a wonderful retreat for travellers who love vastness and tranquillity and want to explore the fantastic wildlife of the area from here.

Founded in the 1960s, Ndutu Safari Lodge has a long history. This and its rustic and familiar ambience convey an authentic safari feeling. You also feel immediately welcome thanks to the courteous hospitality.

Ndutu Safari Lodge, a wonderful retreat

The ‘heart’ of the Ndutu Safari Lodge consists of a bar, a lounge and the dining area. Here guests are treated to breakfast in the morning, a hearty three-course lunch and a four-course dinner in the evening. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available throughout the day and international beers, wines and spirits are on offer for sundowners. Later, you can relax around the campfire and round off the day, while your gaze is soon scanning the African night sky for stars.

Spread around the centre of Ndutu Safari Lodge, 34 stone-built huts blend into the surroundings. Their furnishings are simple but cosy. Each hut has an en-suite bathroom and a veranda with a view of Lake Ndutu or the vastness of the savannah.

Proximity to the ‘Great Migration’

You can spot animals at any time, even from your own veranda. In the Ndutu region, for example, you can spot servals, a species of African wild cat. And with a little luck and patience, you can also spot other ‘cat’ species such as lions, cheetahs and leopards. Elephants and giraffes also regularly pass right in front of the park.

A plus point of Ndutu Safari Lodge is its proximity to the annual wildebeest migration, the well-known ‘Great Migration’: from December to March, thousands of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles gather in the region to give birth to their calves. During this time, the tranquil area suddenly comes to life and sometimes dramatic scenes can be witnessed, for example with cheetahs and lions.

Ndutu Safari Lodge

Unique, whether in the rainy or dry season

But whether it’s the rainy or dry season, the Ndutu region is unique. Incidentally, this is also because here – unlike in most other areas of Tanzania – you are allowed to leave the tracks on game drives. This brings you particularly close to many animals. Twende Tanzania offers trips with experienced guides to ensure that you are in the right place at the right time to observe the animals.
