Mahale Mountains National Park
Magical experiences in mystical nature
The Mahale Mountains National Park is home to around a thousand wild chimpanzees. Observing them in the midst of untouched, mystical nature is simply enchanting.
The scenery in Mahale Mountains National Park is reminiscent of an island beach idyll in the ocean: the sapphire-blue waters of Lake Tanganyika lap silky-white bays. Above it towers a chain of wild, jungle-covered mountain peaks almost two kilometers high: the untouched, mystical and imposing Mahale Mountains.

Even the journey to the extremely picturesque Mahale Moutains National Park is quite a challenge: it can only be reached by plane and boat. There are no roads in the entire park. It is therefore a hiker’s paradise with nothing but footpaths through lush vegetation and, despite its paradisiacal appearance, attracts fewer visitors than many of the other parks.

The Mahale Mountains National Park is also home to around a thousand wild chimpanzees. They are among the last animals of their kind living in the wild. Watching the chimpanzees is simply indescribable. Some of them are even used to humans. Nearby, in Gombe, also on Lake Tanganyika, the famous researcher Jane Goodall once studied these exciting animals.
Would you like to observe the wild chimpanzees? We can organize it for you.

But it’s not just chimpanzees that can be observed here. The Mahale Mountains National Park is also home to leopards, diademed monkeys, numerous butterflies and birds. The wonderful Lake Tanganyika, which is the second largest freshwater lake in the world, is also home to countless species of fish. They are particularly famous for their magnificent colors.
You can relax on the shores of the lake or on a boat trip after chimpanzee trekking. If you like, take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water or explore the impressive underwater world while snorkeling. The fantastic sunsets over the lake are also worth seeing in the park. So don’t forget to take a photo.
