Chada Katavi Camp

Pure wilderness in the remote west of Tanzania

  • Permanent camp
  • 6 safari tents

Chada Katavi Camp is located in one of the most unspoilt wilderness regions in Africa, in the middle of Katavi National Park, on the edge of the Chada Plain. Far away from tourist routes and the hustle and bustle of everyday life, guests can experience the original Africa here in western Tanzania: rugged, wild and overwhelmingly beautiful. The camp is therefore the perfect starting point for safaris as they are written in the book.

At Chada Camp, far away from the hustle and bustle

Chada Camp is small and intimate. In addition to a dining tent and a lounge with a book corner, it consists of just six safari tents. They are traditionally and charmingly furnished, offer comfortable beds, private en-suite bathrooms with bucket showers and each has a small veranda with a view over the vast plains. You can start the day here early in the morning with coffee or tea delivered directly to your tent.

Whether you then go on safari in Katavi National Park or have lunch at the camp: Guests at Chada Katavi Camp enjoy full board. Breakfast and lunch can be taken on game drives or at the camp in buffet style. For dinner there are three courses in the dining tent or in the open air. Afterwards, you can share your safari experiences around a cosy crackling campfire under the tamarind trees.

Unrivalled scenes

The dry season here lasts from June to the end of October. During this time, the watercourses – the elixir of life for many animals – increasingly dry up in the often scorching heat. Whole herds of hippos and crocodiles gather in the remaining pools and waterholes, which can lead to unrivalled scenes.

In the rainy season from around November to the beginning of June, Katavi is transformed into a wonderfully lush green landscape. However, because the Chada Plain fills with water during this time and the paths are difficult to navigate, Chada Camp is only open during the dry season.

Chada Katavi Camp

African wilderness in its purest form

Chada Katavi Camp can be approached on Mondays and Thursdays. The transfer from Ikuu Airstrip to the camp takes around 40 minutes. Once here, guests can go on classic game drives as well as guided bush walks. Or you can experience a night under the open sky with ‘Fly Camping’ – including African wilderness in its purest form.
