The varying and beautiful landscapes are reflected in three zones: the Ngurudoto Crater to the east, the Momela Lakes at the centre and Mount Meru in the west. Just as diverse are the flora and fauna. From shade-loving plants and forest growth to tropical palm species and alpine highland vegetation, you’ll find plenty to admire here. Four hundred different bird species, both migratory and resident, have been sighted. And in the trees there are always lots of black and white colobus monkeys.
The park ranges in altitude from 1500 meters above sea level in Momela to 4566 metres at the peak of Mount Meru. Like its surroundings, it is volcanic in origin. Its jagged peak is the second highest point in Tanzania – and the fourth highest in East Africa
