The Tarangire National Park in Tanzania – with unforgettable animal diversity

DTarangire National Park is a jewel. It’s located 1400 metres above sea level and its eponymous river constantly attracts wildlife. In addition to giraffes, zebras and other animals, probably the largest herds of elephants can be found here.

The Tarangire National Park, covering an area of 2600 square kilometres, is not huge. But it is a well-guarded secret!

It was David Rechsteiner, one of Bernhard Grzimek’s closest associates, who was able to encourage Tanzanian President Nyerere to establish the park in the 1950’s. The Tarangire National Park is not as heavily visited as the well-known parks, even though the Tarangire river flows all year round, so that rare combinations of animal species can be seen watering there throughout the year. In addition to the large herds of elephant, there are also giraffes and zebras, antelopes and wildebeest, kudus, buffalos and oryx. If you are patient, you might even come across leopards, which find their best habitat conditions here.
The park lies about 1400 metres above sea level and is only 114 kilometres from Arusha. As a kind of near and dear home base, it is especially close to Twende Tanzania’s heart. Discover it for yourself.
